Main Similarities
- Both the Ghostbed and Nectar are built entirely of foam. While this may lead some to think they have identical feels, their different foams result in distinct sleeping experiences.
- Both mattresses are great value buys, which is a nice perk for budget shoppers.
- Both mattresses offer great pressure relief, but depending on your preferred sleeping position you may prefer one over the other.
- Both mattresses have just average edge support, meaning that you shouldn’t slip off the edge of these beds, but they also aren’t super supportive.
Main Differences
- The GhostBed feels firmer than the Nectar, which features pressure-relieving memory foam.
- The Nectar offers more sinkage, while the GhostBed offers more responsiveness and bounce.
- The GhostBed sleeps cooler than the Nectar thanks to its aerated latex layer.
- The Nectar has much better motion isolation than the GhostBed. Couples will appreciate the Nectar’s ability to prevent one partner’s motion from transferring to the other.
Nectar and GhostBed Mattress Feel Comparison
Next, let’s get into how these mattresses feel. Since everyone experiences the firmness level of a mattress differently (because of size and weight distribution), I decided to bring in three more testers to try out each of these beds. I’ll describe the average of our experiences below.
Nectar
The Nectar has an average firmness rating of 6 out of 10. For reference, the mattress industry standard for medium-firm is a 6.5 out of 10. This means the Nectar is a medium-soft mattress. Because the Nectar is made of memory foam, it gets softer the longer you lie on it.
I found its thick memory foam layers produced a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. No matter the position I stretched out in, I could feel the material contouring to the curves of my body for some pretty intense sinkage. This body-contouring feel should work best for side sleepers or back sleepers who enjoy a memory foam mattress.
Stomach sleepers, on the other hand, may find the overall lack of support to be detrimental to their comfort as their hips sink out of alignment with their shoulders. I’d also say the “stuck” feeling you’ll likely experience with the memory foam makes it difficult to move around and change positions, which could be a no-go for combo sleepers.
The hug-like feeling of the Nectar could be a perk for couples. This mattress offers great motion isolation. This means you won’t feel movement from one side of the bed on the other, which is a perk for folks who want to avoid being disturbed by a restless partner.
GhostBed
I gave the GhostBed a 7 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale. Because you don’t sink into it, this bed feels firmer than the Nectar. This foam bed is very responsive, and I felt more “on top of” than “stuck in” this mattress. I’d say this is the main feel difference between the Nectar and the GhostBed. Combination sleepers especially should prefer the ease of movement the GhostBed offers.
The GhostBed strikes a nice balance between pressure relief and support. Back sleepers should enjoy this feel. I think lighter stomach sleepers and back and stomach combo sleepers could also find this firm mattress comfortable.
If you’re looking for a bed with good temperature regulation abilities, the GhostBed is probably a better fit for you than the Nectar. Its latex and poly foam construction won’t trap as much body heat as the layers of memory foam in the Nectar. On the other hand, the GhostBed won’t dampen motion transfer as well as the Nectar, which means you might feel disturbed by a restless partner on this bed.
Comparing What it’s Like to Sleep on the Nectar and the GhostBed
How you experience a mattress can vary greatly depending on your body type and your primary sleeping position. So to help you make your decision, I’ll go over how I think different types of sleepers will experience the Nectar and GhostBed mattresses.
Nectar
Back — The Nectar mattress should be comfortable for back sleepers! Light back sleepers should feel a nice blend of firmness and support, while average weight back sleepers should experience some good contouring around their lower back. The Nectar won’t be a great choice for heavy back sleepers, however, as it is lacking in support for heavier body weights.
Side — This mattress is well-suited to average weight side sleepers, who should get lots of deep body-contouring and pressure relief. Light side sleepers may find it too firm, while heavy back sleepers will probably find it lacking in support.
Stomach — Overall, the Nectar is not a great choice for stomach sleepers. Light stomach sleepers might be okay, as they won’t sink in as much as average to heavy people. But I usually recommend a firm mattress with sturdy support, such as an innerspring mattress, for stomach sleepers, to ensure their hips don’t sink into the bed, which can cause back pain.
Body Weight — Average weight people will find the Nectar to be just a touch firmer than medium-firm. Lighter people will probably experience the Nectar as quite firm. And heavy people will find it too soft and lacking in support to keep their spine aligned, so overall I wouldn’t recommend the Nectar to heavy sleepers.
GhostBed
Back — The GhostBed is a great option for back sleepers of all sizes! Back sleepers should feel like they’re sleeping on top of the GhostBed, but still getting some contouring around the lumbar region.
Side — For side sleepers, the GhostBed is not the best option. Generally, I think it will be a little too firm to offer enough pressure relief for light to average weight side sleepers on their hips and shoulders. And heavy side sleepers may sink through the comfort layers down to the base, which could lead to uncomfortable pressure points.
Stomach — The GhostBed should work well for light stomach sleepers, as it will keep their hips elevated. But for average to heavy stomach sleepers, I would definitely recommend something a bit firmer.
Body Weight — When it comes to perception of feel based on body weight, light sleepers will experience the GhostBed as a little firmer than average and heavy sleepers will experience it as a little softer than average. The GhostBed can be a good option for people of all weight categories, depending on their primary sleeping position.

In this section, you’ll get a general low down of each bed’s build. Keep reading below to learn more about each layer of these beds.
Nectar
Cover — The Nectar’s cover is made of a quilted polyester/nylon blend that has a soft, breathable feel.
Comfort Layer — Next up, there’s a layer of gel memory foam. This thick layer results in an immense amount of body contouring that’ll leave you feeling more “in” the bed than “on top” of it. Though not ideal for all, it could be a great fit for those who doze primarily on their sides. The gel will also contribute to cooling, as it will draw heat away from your body.
Transition Layer — Directly below this gel foam layer is a layer of what Nectar calls “dynamically adjusting foam.” This layer is meant to transition the sleeper into the firm base below, helping to extend the contouring of the comfort layer even deeper into the mattress.
Foundation Layer — Rounding out the construction, we’ve got high-density foam. This section gives the bed its stability and shape, providing a solid foundation for the rest of the mattress.
GhostBed
Cover — The cooling cover is made of a combo of viscose and polyester. It’s quite thin, so should encourage some nice airflow and breathability throughout the bed.
Comfort Layer — The latex foam comfort layer has a quick response to pressure, which should help keep the sleeper positioned on top of the structure and prevent a stuck-in-the-bed feeling. Right off the bat, we can see how the use of latex here (as opposed to memory foam in the Nectar) produces a totally different feel, allowing for optimized mobility.
Transition Layer — Up next, you’ll find a layer of gel memory foam, that helps ease you down onto the firmer support foam below. It also offers a bit of sinkage and body-contouring.
Base Layer — The foundation of the mattress consists of high-density poly foam. This layer provides support to the mattress and offers some durability. The GhostBed uses more poly foam than the Nectar, which is part of the reason it has a firmer feel.
